This historical French Alpine town has accords to boast apart from its fabulous mainly North facing ski pistes. Once world renowned Samoens has a rich culture of stone masonary that exported product and expertise all over Europe and beyond.
The botanical gardens here date from 1900’s can be visited in the summer months when they emerge from their wintery hibernation.
As arguably the capital of the Grands Massif ski area (265km pistes) its town centre has plenty of artisanal foodie shops and lovely trinket / take an old pair of skis home type places as well. A very pleasant and happy French local population seem to greet visitors with a genuine warmth which in rare in these parts. Access to the main lift can become congested at times so a great tip it to head to Samoens 1600 with the ski bus to short cut this.
Accommodation is reasonable and restaurants on the hill have the same approach.
